The Anatomy Lesson: Memory Pictures

Since beginning The Anatomy Lesson, Cutler-Shaw has been researching the history of two- and three- dimensional anatomical images in the great medical museums and libraries in the United States and Europe, as well as some venues in China and Japan. The documentation has taken the form of Memory Pictures, reminiscent of the face photographic collages of the earlier Messenger series. The history of anatomy is the history of human representation: How we are seen and how we see ourselves.
