The Anatomy Lesson

Joyce Cutler-Shaw is the first visual artist to be appointed by the School of Medicine of the University of California, San Diego as Artist-In-Residence /Visiting Scholar from 1992-to the present. Her project during this residency is to realize a contemporary re-vision of a traditional subject, "The Anatomy Lesson." She approaches the body as a matrix of the human condition and the study of its territory as a geography. Her themes are human identity and the evolution of life. "How we depict the body...and interpret the body...and behave toward the body...reveals the way we see and understand ourselves." more >>
